My artistic practice is rooted in observation and shaped by a sustained engagement with the natural world. Inspiration emerges through the careful study of forms, textures, light, and atmosphere encountered in everyday surroundings. I document these visual fragments through photography, creating an archive of reference material that informs and guides the development of my work.
Central to my practice is an exploration of the relationship between female figures, landscape, and the natural environment. Women, flowers, and organic forms recur throughout my work as symbolic elements through which I investigate themes of memory, transformation, resilience, and identity. Rather than functioning as conventional representations, these subjects are integrated into layered compositions that exist between abstraction and figuration.
My portrait-based works begin with the selection of an image that resonates conceptually and emotionally. Using acrylic, collage, and mixed media on wood panel, I construct the surface through successive layers, allowing the grain, texture, and physical character of the support to remain visible and active within the composition. The material qualities of the wood are not incidental, but integral to the work, creating a dialogue between the painted image and its surface.
My approach to landscape painting differs in process and intention. These works are developed through a more intuitive and gestural method, guided by movement, colour, and automatic mark-making. Rather than depicting a specific location, the landscapes function as emotional and psychological spaces, informed by memory, atmosphere, and the sensory experience of nature.
The incorporation of natural materials is also an important aspect of my practice. During walks in the forest, I collect feathers, leaves, branches, and fragments of wood, which are later integrated into the work. These elements extend the connection between the painting and the natural environment, adding texture, depth, and a tangible sense of place.
Through this process, I seek to create work that reflects the complexity of the relationship between the human figure and the natural world. My paintings aim to balance strength and vulnerability, materiality and atmosphere, while inviting the viewer into a contemplative space where personal and collective experience intersect.
